Bou Bhaat Beauty
Sandy Ao described for us the exuberant rites of Hindu weddings through words and pictures. In February she attended the Bou Bhaat of newlyweds Rupesh and Sampa Hazra. According to Hindu custom, the bride (bou) prepares a ceremonial meal for the groom’s family two days after the wedding, and then there’s a lavish reception. All eyes are on the bride and her resplendent costume, heavy with symbolic ornaments like the naath (nose ring) and a garland and crown of tuberose flowers (note the red roses here too).
