Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, gardening was introduced to me at a very young age. Growing up in a large family, we had a huge garden in our back yard and my Dad gave me gardening chores including planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, etc. I even had the opportunity to help my Dad with the rototilling and not that I was much help, being a small kid at the time, but it was all I could do to handle the large Toro machine on my own. I asked my Dad if I could help and he let me. I was so excited! Of course, I did not appreciate the gardening chores as a kid, but I’ve grown to love and appreciate all that is associated with it - digging in the dirt, getting dirt under my fingernails, sweating until my eyes stung, seeing the results of all my hard work, etc. All the time devoted to the tasks involved in creating beauty is definitely worth it. |
